Walking some tight ropes

The girls showed us their excellent prowess on the ropes course, quickly conquering all manner of obstacles and pushing personal limits without compromising safety.  I'm not sure if Beanstalk has ever seen a flossing zipliner before, but they have now. After teetering in the heights, they enjoyed ice cream and a water show dance party. Fun times, fun girls!

Halibut Point State Park

What a lovely day for hiking in Rockport! We took the self-guided tour around the quarry, and detoured to bask near the ocean before making our way back to around the other side of the quarry. The quarry was filled with all sorts of water fowl, tadpoles, bullfrogs, and pollen. No girls were lost over the often steep ledges, so that's a big win!

Michelle's Filipino Cultural Night

Michelle led an awesome RS/AD activity and shared a bit of her Filipino heritage with us. The girls helped set up and then were able to learn and make delicious "Lumpia."

From Michelle's emails:
Thanks for coming tonight!  I hope you had as much fun as I did.

Just a recap - we made Lumpia (Shanghai style) and Turon(banana) and we had Filipino Adobo (not same as Mexican adobo).

Sorry no clear recipe since it really is “freestyle” but here are some links:

Adobo ( soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, ginger + chicken): http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/geoffrey-zakarian/filipino-adobo-chicken-3213586

Lumpia (garlic, pepper, salt + egg + meat + veggies):

Turon (banana + brown sugar):

For the lumpia - freeze if you’re not cooking it immediately before it becomes soggy; use any meat or even all veggies

For the Turon - make sure to not overheat the oil to give some time for the plantain to cook. You can also technically use a regular banana but the flavor and texture is different.

For the adobo - use thighs and you can also cook it using pork. Adobo or really just the style of cooking.

Maraming Salamat! (Thank you!)

Dirt, Seeds, and Plants

Spring has finally sprung! We donned our green thumbs and planted seeds, decorated flower pots, and re-homed some plants in said pots.

The Art of Conflict Resolution

Carri Hulet ran an excellent workshop on conflict resolution. Her basic premise was that when we are in conflict with someone, be it our parents, peers, teachers, or someone else, we are in conflict because we each want something and that something is not the same thing. So the way to start resolving it is to ask more about why the person wants what they want, and only then can we start to find solutions and common ground.

We did role-playing involving a couple of different example conflicts: A) wanting to stay up later and B) wanting a pet.
