Michelle led an awesome RS/AD activity and shared a bit of her Filipino heritage with us. The girls helped set up and then were able to learn and make delicious "Lumpia."
From Michelle's emails:
Thanks for coming tonight! I hope you had as much fun as I did.
Just a recap - we made Lumpia (Shanghai style) and Turon(banana) and we had Filipino Adobo (not same as Mexican adobo).
Sorry no clear recipe since it really is “freestyle” but here are some links:
Adobo ( soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, ginger + chicken): http://www.foodnetwork.com/ recipes/geoffrey-zakarian/ filipino-adobo-chicken-3213586
Lumpia (garlic, pepper, salt + egg + meat + veggies):
Turon (banana + brown sugar):
For the lumpia - freeze if you’re not cooking it immediately before it becomes soggy; use any meat or even all veggies
For the Turon - make sure to not overheat the oil to give some time for the plantain to cook. You can also technically use a regular banana but the flavor and texture is different.
For the adobo - use thighs and you can also cook it using pork. Adobo or really just the style of cooking.
Maraming Salamat! (Thank you!)
Michelle "
